A life guard’s weapon of choice fighting the forces of chaos is often his/her whistle. A lifeguard’s whistle is many things other then just a loud thing that you blow into. A whistle is the thing that sets you apart form the people that are just there for a swim, its way of communication, and authority.
The main reason why I think a lifeguards whistle is the most important tool in their arsenal is because it protects you as well as others form danger. When a lifeguard goes in to same some one he or she first blows her whistle to alert other life guards of what’s going on, because most lifeguards don’t want to be the only one going in after a 500lb man with no back up. Also when a life guard blows his whistle every one looks and knows what’s going on preventing people form getting in the way.
So in whey if you think about it when you go to a pool the only thing that could be between you and a life and death experience is the lifeguards whistle.

A lifeguard’s uniform consists of a brightly colored shirt swimming shorts and sneakers. Nothing fancy but all practical for the job.
As a lifeguard you must follow code of conduct to keep all from going to hell. You cant be to nice or to stern you must fined that happy middle so you can become friends with the people but also you words will hold some weight when needed. One of the first things they taught me in lifeguard training is to stand as if you can be approached. If you have you eyes on the ground and your hands crossed then people might be hesitant to ask for help or a question. This is important because preventing disaster is a lifeguard’s mane job and having a better relationship with the people at the pool beach or were ever you may work will make it a lot easier.

tools of the trade
Life guards have so many tools sp I will just tell you the ones I think are most important. the mane tool you will use life guarding is a whistle. The whistle gets other live guards attention if you are going for you brake to informing you coworkers that some one is drowning. The second most important tool a life guard must use is his/her voice using you voice in the right whey could be the difference between chaos and piece. Last but not least is the aid. All that an aid is is a something that floats to help you carry heavier people to safety.
the road to become a life gaurd
To become a life guard you need different courses for different types of life guarding. For example if you were to work at a water park you would need different courses then if you were to go to a normal pool. I’m just going to look at going to a normal pool because that’s were I ‘m going to try and apply. The first thing you need is your bronze cross witch teaches you how to do very simple first aid and water recovery (not meant for pools) this leaches you how to save some one without putting yourself in danger. Next you need you bronze medallion and Red Cross witch is just more depth and adds a fitness section. After that is the NLS which allows you to work at some pools but not all. NLS teaches you how to use life guarding equipment and many other life saving practices. The last of the courses you only need for some pools. They teach you hoe to bee a swing instructor as well as a life guard.
a day in the life of a life guard
Life guarding is normally a pretty lax job, but some times it can get pretty crazy. at the pool that I got my tanning there were around 1 or 2 times when a life guard had to jump in the water (not including missing persons) and half the time the kid would be faking it. Missing persons happens a lot on busy days, when a parent reports a child missing life guards have to clear every one out of the pool and check the bottom of all he pools just in case. Besides that most of a life guards gob is preventing disaster not saving people from it.

why i want to be a life gaurd
I want to be a like guard because I like the thought of helping people, and a pool deck for me is a lot better then sitting behind a desk for my whole life. Life guarding holds not bad pay and keeps you fit. It also lets you bring skills that will help you in the real world as well as in the pool. Before you become a life guard you have to become a live saver which is not yet a live guard but is able to mend simple injury and do CPR.
